Cornerstone for Puppet Theater Extension
08.02.2016On February 1, 2016, a cornerstone was placed for an extension to Puppet Theater and Museum in Nunne Street, Tallinn's Old Town in an official ceremony. The building will be completed by the autumn of 2016 and the Theater will start performances in the extended building also in this autumn season.
The extension links the existing theater and museum into a coherent whole. In addition to the new 422-seat theater auditorium, more utility rooms and storages as well as an outdoor patio will be built. A new elevator significantly improves access for people with special needs to both the NUKU Museum as well as to the existing auditoriums of the Theater. In addition to the extension, the theater building at 1 Lai Street will be also partly renovated.
The cornerstone ceremony was attended by Indrek Saar, the Minister of Culture, designers and architects, employees of the Theater, builders and representatives of State Real Estate Ltd.
The authors of the architectural design of the Theater building extension were Karisma Architects (Risto Parve, Diana Taalfeld, Kai Süda and Kristo Kaskpeit). The engineering design of the extension was developed by Amhold as the lead designer. Construction works will be executed by Ehitus5ECO LLC.
