Tartu open prison cornerstone ceremony

Cornerstone ceremony was held on 13thJune 2014 for the new open prison building complex    constructed to Tartu prison territory.

The new 3-storey prison building will be constructed in the order of State Real Estate Ltd to the territory of Tartu prison located in south-east part of Tartu city. The planned area of the constructed building is 1442 m2and is considered for 60 imprisoned persons.

Open prison is a contemporary form of imprisonment. Its aim is to help the imprisoned person to adapt better in the society. Open prison department will locate two kinds of imprisoned persons. The ones whose prison term is ending and who has good behaviour record and shown that they are capable of returning to the society; and the ones who are imprisoned for light criminal offences.

The aim of State Real Estate Ltd is to construct the building on time and with optimal costs. The building has to comply with the established and prison specific regulations; building’s maintenance should be resistance and also have low maintenance costs. It has to be functional, according to regulations, with low energy consumption and resistance.

Amhold as the lead contractor provided the following design services of the building complex: architecture, constructive, interior design parts and heating, cooling, ventilation, water and sewerage, electrical and weak current solutions. Including engineering-technical and environmental surveys, design solutions for roads, parking lots (212 parking spaces), greenery of the territory and automation, security and alarm systems of the building. Amhold performed construction cost calculations and author’s supervision of the construction works, and consulted the client during the construction works.

Project manager of the design works was Jaan Aru, draft plan of the building was prepared by architects of Arhitektrum , architectural work project and interior design project was prepared by an architect Jane Teresk and constructive part was designed by Andrei Uibukant.

Construction works will be carried out by YIT Ehitus AS. Cost of construction is approximately 2,2 million euros and the building will be completed by March 2015.
