2014 Best Buildings in Tartu Announced

The best buildings of 2014 in the City of Tartu, the first prize in the category of reconstruction and extensions to other buildings was awarded to the new extension of Heino Eller Tartu Music School (15 Lossi st, Tartu).

In the case of the Music School, the jury valued the extension with a modern architectural language found through an architectural contest and skillfully attached to the historical section, where the internal and external space – the concert hall and Toomemägi – is gratefully combined.  

The new wing of the academic building of Heino Eller Tartu Music Schoolwas opened on September 15, 2014. The head designer was Amhold AS, The architectural and acoustical solution of the concert hall was performed in cooperation by architectural bureau Järve & Tuulik and acoustics bureau Akukon OY. The project manager of the design of the Music School extension was Jaan Aru.

In November 2014,  the concert hall of Heino Eller Tartu Music School was also awarded with a special prize in the contest „2014 Wooden Building of the Year“, for the best use of UPM plywood.
